The approach with two hands is quite interesting. If I'll ever seriously start doing Chinese calligraphy, I should consider this. Although, I have a hunch that I might start writing not in parallel but symmetric, i.e. the right hand writing flipped over.
Does anyone else know Martin Gardner's book "The new ambidextrous universe"? First written in 1967 to show the symmetry of the universe and the corrected 20 years later as evidence was found that the univers is not - after all - symmetric in everything.
Is handedness, chirality etc. of importance or significance in Chinese in other respects?
Btw: I am not amused if handedness is assumed to be a deficiency - even if it is a genetic trait or due to prenatal testosterone exposure or something. GRR!

March 27, 2009 at 1:45 PM@matt_c: I ALWAYS use my left hand for writing, kuaizi. I get the impression that for proper Chinese calligraphy you're supposed to use your right hand. Does a Chinese child get into trouble when wanting to use the left hand for writing etc.? (It's not like in India where your right hand is used to get things into your body and your left hand for the opposite, is it?)
