October 1, 2014 at 6:55 PMHi tim102,
图片 and 照片 are similar, but a little but not exactly the same. 照片 always refers to a photograph, as in a picture taken with a camera. The meaning of 图片 is a little more broad. It can refers to photographs, but it can also refer to pictures that are drawn or animated.

October 1, 2014 at 6:41 PMAnother good supplementary word is: 经痛 jīng tòng which refers to those nasty cramps ladies get at that time of the month. To help with the pain, you could take 止痛药 zhǐ tòng yào which is the word for painkillers.
*很多女性收到经痛的困扰 hén duō nǚ xìng shòu dào jīng tòng de kùn rǎo. Many women suffer from cramps.

September 30, 2014 at 6:54 PMHa ha, @cowenparkseattle- It IS adorable when Jenny does it... and I think because Jenny's English is very good and her pronunciation switching back and forth between Chinese and English is incredibly clear, she's very easy to understand. But I also understand @mikeinewshot's confusion. When my teachers in Taiwan would switch back and forth, often it was very hard for me to understand them because their English pronunciation wasn't very 标准. It can also be confusing when your brain is expecting to hear Chinese, but it hears English instead. :)

September 30, 2014 at 6:35 PMThe English would be: I had the same experience. It was a 24 hour trip and everyone was snoring very loudly!
*Please feel free to correct my mistakes in either language.

September 29, 2014 at 6:39 PMWhen I lived in Taiwan, it was very common for people to refer to dorms as 宿舍. I actually did not learn the word 寝室 until I moved back to New York. Sometimes it depends on where you are, like how people usually say 西红柿 in 大陆 for tomato, but they say 番茄 in 台湾- or 菠萝 and 凤梨 for pineapple! :)
