因为“要饭”在中文里的意思是“行乞 to beg, go begging", 是一个固定搭配。同样意思的词还有“讨饭tao3fan4“。
而a begger 我们可以说“要饭的”或者“乞丐”。
“我需要饭”的说法听上去可能有点怪，感觉特别正式。所以下次你可以说，“我要吃饭”，“我要加一点饭”，“（如果别人错误地给了一碗面）我要的是米饭！”

April 20, 2010 at 9:01 AM呵呵，“感谢国家”这个词非常普通，但经过“周洋感谢门”那件事后，网络上出现这个四个字时更多的是表达了一些讽刺的含义。
比如changye你提供的链接文章中，最后写道：
根据信里排列的次序，矿工兄弟们获救后应该感谢的次序为：感谢国家，感谢国家领导，感谢省领导，感谢全国各族人民。当然，如果他们还有力气说更多的话，捎带着感谢一下奋战在一线的救援人员甚至是自己父母，也是可以理解的。

（简单介绍一下）一位中国运动员在冬奥会上拿了冠军，当记者采访她时，她说首先要感谢父母，另外还说了如“这枚金牌能让我爸爸妈妈过得更好”之类的话。但是之后，国家体育局一位高官批评她说，应该“先感谢国家，感谢党”。之后，这位运动员在自己的博客中更正了她的话，先感谢了国家，然后感谢父母排到了第五位。

Actually there's number of different theories and understandings about I Ching and Yin-Yang, and many different sources as well. It's hard to find an ordered line to follow. But more of this happend, make itself more attractive to people who want to get in. Well, at least I'm one of them.
Anyway, the purpose of this lesson is just to encourage people to know more about Yin-Yang and I Ching, and try to help them to sort out a bit of where I Ching came from. And most important is to teach relevant Chinese words.
I love your username by the way, thinkbuddha. If you ask different Chinese people how they think of Buddha you maybe can get many different answers. Someone like to burn things, while someone like to visit temples and get down on their knees. From some point, like the confusion of I Ching.
