The dialogue is too advanced for newbie learners but there are still some phrases that can be quite helpful for newbie learners.

Yes that's a perfect thing to say in this situation! You can also say 考试加油!which means you're cheering them on for the test.

Thank you for your honesty. Could you let me know why you dislike the series and how you think it can be improved?

Good question! But you need to use 把 in the sentences if you want to express the action of "putting" something somewhere.

Very good question! We have three measure words for 课. 门 is used to count the number of subjects rather than lessons. You can say, 我这学期有三门课, meaning I have three subjects this semester. 节 refers to one class session/period and it is related to time. For example, 一节课有四十五分钟. This is often used interchangeably with 堂. As for 堂, this is the most common measure word for 课. It can refer to subject, lesson, or even session.

As for your examples: "tonight's class will cover the subject of the battle of Red Cliff"--> 今晚这堂课/这节课

What about "This semester I am taking a class on Chinese military history. "-->我有一门中国军事历史课

"Last semester I missed three classes because of family matters." --> 我缺席了三节课/三堂课

Good question! 同情 and 可怜 can both be understood as "to feel sorry for sb." but the former has a more empathetic and positive connotation, while 可怜 is more similar to 'pity", which can be interpreted as condescending in some cases. If you are expressing genuine pity for somebody, 同情 would be a better word!

Good question! Except for the most common sentence structure: S + V + O, there is another structure which is: Topic + S + V. In the latter, you say the topic first and then the actions related to the topic.
