我记得我在大学上中文课的时候 (90's 的 年代 ),我的同学除了两三个人以外都是美国华侨。他们属于那种想要得到“easy A" 的 懒惰学生。 它们的听力和口语能力都挺高的就是不会认字。 我很努力得上课，一边听老师讲课一边看书,它们反而宁愿睡觉或是跟朋友聊天。让我感觉很迷惑的是他们那些华侨都很矛盾,对自己的中国或台湾祖先很骄傲,同时他们并不情愿跟我们白人交朋友。不过它们美国华侨却迷上了“Hip Hop" 的 文化。

说到个人的身份困惑, 我觉得美国华侨的生活有一点复杂。每 一次我新认识 一个华侨，他们发现我会讲中文甚至可以念和写. 他们马上感觉不舒服,好像要跟我比赛似的。可能跟他们很传统的父母亲有关吧。爸爸妈妈可能很严厉，要求孩子保持他们自身的文化和语言。说实话,到现在我一直没办法把华侨当成好朋友。土生土长的中国或台湾人反而很快，很顺地跟我交流。没有那种尴尬，竞争的情绪在里头。

In English, we talk about brands --as in "name brand" like Prada, Disney or BMW.

I know these are translated as "ming2pai2" or "pin3pai2".

But what about the verb "branding".  Is it still "pine3pai2?"

In English, as a marketer, my job is to help "build a brand".  How does that translate into Chinese?
