January 21, 2010 at 12:15 PM posted in General DiscussionPosted this already in Xiaophil's post about the meet-up, but thought I would also pass this along in a new post. Was a great time last night...lots of people, but great to get to know more of the ChinesePod staff. Do hope we can do this more often. Took some photos of our table, but somehow I never got a picture of Jenny... she was there I tell you. :) Here is a link to the few photos I took:

Right....I thought it was being a little fishy so I switched to using my VPN which can get outside of China. I will have to either switch to flickr or finally get pictures working on my own website soon. Will try to post them up there in a few days and let you know.... but for the time being can download the zip at

@Rich
Picasa is blocked in China right? I just made the troublesome switch to Flickr.

March 15, 2011 at 06:35 PMHi Orangina - just recently joined this website and enjoying it very much. I lived in Taiwan andmany Taiwanese pronounced 熱 and 日with an intial "z" sound, with the tongue touching the teeth, whereas northern Chineseseem to make a similar sound but with the tongue rolled back and perhaps the teeth apart. It may help to try starting off with an initial "z" then moving the tongue and teeth to get to the "proper" 北進 or 標準 accent。 By the way I find pinyin better than bo-po-mo-fo, but maybe because I was taught that first.
