Should I use 觉得 or 以为？

I know the general difference between the two words, but sometimes I want to make a sentence similar to this:

I guess you think I'm from Canada.  (But actually, I'm from Michigan.)

Would 以为 still be prefered here?  I always think 以为 means "I thought xxx (but now I know I was wrong)"  In this case, though, the person doesn't know he or she is wrong until after the sentence is said.
