Windows 7

November 02, 2009, 11:12 AM posted in General DiscussionI'm thinking of upgrading from Vista to Windows 7 and was wondering if any Poddies have given this a go yet and how they found it.I use perakun popup translator in Firefox and google pinyin input,so I'm wondering how these things go,how pinyin input goes...basically how it handles all things related to Chinese and using this site.Any thoughts or experiences?

Thanks heaps guys.I'm keen to take the plunge then.
miantiao,
That's no good about your 'puter mate.I assume it had nothing to do with windows 7 or you would have said.Anyhow, good to see you're back on board. What are you using now then? You must have access to another 'puter but not with windows 7 I take it.
jckeith,
Thanks for the mandarin popup recommendation.Perakun certainly has it's weaknesses.I have tried another popup or two previously but they had their detractors as well. One was a google based one I think and I think was a better translator but it always slowed down the bootup process.Windows 7 is said to run faster and smoother so maybe it won't have that problem in 7.Perakuns on off button works better than others I'd tried too.On the other hand it certainly has big gaps in it's translation. Here I go offsite to mdbg, but yeah,it'd be nice to not have to do that.I'll give Mandarin Popup a shot. Thanks mate :)

November 02, 2009, 04:49 PMI recently switched to Windows 7. It has the same pinyin input system as XP and Vista and also has a newer system you can use that I like better. I've never tried Google Pinyin, but I'm sure it works fine. Firefox works like a charm too. By the way, I'd recommend you switch to Mandarin Popup over Perakun. I like it a lot better.

November 03, 2009, 07:19 AMI'm not surprised mate.It wasn't my best effort in Chinese.All in a bit of a rush...came out as 瞎说。I was trying to say:
hey,I was wondering if that was you up ahead.Look over your left shoulder mate.I'm the guy in the row behind you also on CPod at the same time as watching the races.I'm very glad to meet you at last.

Hey thanks mate for the mandarin popup recommendation.Only just installed it but my first impression is that it is better. The toggle to turn it on and off works like a treat [some other popups it didn't make it easy at all and in perakun it could be a bit temperamental] and the definitions are looking good so far.The font is large and easier to see the characters 。多谢 :)
Oh,and to both jckeith and miantiao, thanks heaps for giving me the confidence to take the plunge with windows 7.All the Chinese stuff is working fine.

November 02, 2009, 04:44 PMhey barbs,
i had windows 7 for a few days, before my puter cracked a wobbly and died.
had no problems with google pinyin. i'm not sure of any other applications or plug ins or outs, or perakuns. had no probs with it using this site or nciku.
its a nicer looking than vista ;)
