what I do is similar to you in that I study the new characters and vocab from the new weekly lesson. It allows me to expand character knowledge in a related and gradual way. I cut and paste each charater from the weekly vocab list (intermediate) into zdt and it fills in the definition and creates a flash card set. This I use to study and zdt allows you to copy characters only (all of them at once) and I can easily import into archchinese. Archchinese allows me to study character stroke order more easily and I can create a pdf list that can be printed for character stroke order practice. Nice sheets ($19 per year fee to be able to do this). I think it would be nice if cpod provided printable sheets for character practice with each vocab list and a ready made exportable flash card set for same. I do not use the cpod flashcards much because there are many issues as you know.

I'd kill to be Neo...if for nothing else to see Trinity (Amber) in that skin-tight leather suit. Sorry Amber ;)

babardwan,
yes, there is a reality beyond CPod. But I wouldn't take that red pill again. Out here it is cold and you don't have as much time to learn Chinese.

Henning,
That comment's making me feel I'm connected to the matrix,so i wanna know who's who? As Carrie-Anne Moss is from British Columbia you'd have to suggest Amber is Trinity.Matt_C[Aussie]..agent Smith[Hugo Weaving ..Aussie]?..Changye...a male oracle?...Are you our Morpheus mate? Ken ..the Architect?Kimiik, are you up for Merovingian? Which of you Americans is up for Neo? Calkins?RJ?Xiaohu?

babardwan,
I am afraid that for this sort of time travel you need to have admin rights on the system.

hehe,I posted a comment today and it immediately registered it as having been made 7 hours before;time travel...you should know more about that than I henning being a sci fi fan and all. It'd be very handy if I could always travel back and forwards 7 hours in time.Friday the 13th should be interesting.I presume that's just western superstition btw?

@henning - Great to see that. I admit I'd stopped visiting after hearing that there weren't going to be custom lists.
What I want is to be able to study 1 set of new words. So for the latest lesson I can practice recognition, pronunciation, and writing the characters.
At the moment I don't use ChinesePod vocab lists or Scritter. I've resorted to a spreadsheet and zdt. This way I have one list of words that I should know and can dip in to it as needed.
This talk of APIs fills me with hope and I'll definitely be playing around with the API when it is released.

henning,
That has captured my imagination.I have used Skritter and think it's great, but still somehow don't get around to using it,but if it was integrated with the CPod lessons I'd be much more motivated to do it as part of the exercises.Good work guys. Thanks heaps and good luck.

billgoveruk,
I posted a similar request on their blog. Here is the answer:
And you're right about the custom lists. Scott is actually working on creating that widget right now. I'm not sure exactly when we'll get it uploaded, but it's definitely in the works and we'll announce it when it's finished.
Imagine - an automatically generated writing lesson for every newly published CPod that becomes an integrated part of the daily learning routine.

@henning: I asked Skritter a while back about the possibility of using custom word lists. They said it wasn't on the roadmap. Maybe I'll have to ask them again.

Anyone interested in doing something with the API. It's been a while since I've done any real coding so I'm up for a challenge.
What would you like to see done with the API?
