Character mnemonics

Hi everyone, I've been thinking about putting together a website but would first like to see if anyone here would have any interest in it. It would be a rather simple site where you could look any Chinese (or Japanese) character and (if anyone has added one yet) read mnemonics to help you remember how the character. My plan was to let anyone add their own mnemonics for a character and then let users vote on whether they find a specific suggestion helpful or not and then simply sort the suggested mnemonics based on this rating.

So, my main questions would be:

• Do you think mnemonics explaining characters are helpful for retention?
  
• Would such a website be helpful?
• Would you even consider contributing your own mnemonics?
