Here's a suggestion:

1) Use the listening test to find your level.

2) Use the search bar to find lessons related to anything that interests you, or is relevant to your life in the coming weeks.

3) Narrow your search to your level, and then sort the results in descending ranking order (rank is assigned by the community using the stars on the lesson page above the picture, so is a good measure of how useful a lesson is).

4) Bookmark the top few lessons, then search for something else.

If you're doing Intermediate, the Zhang Liang/ Lili saga is pretty good--the first few lessons are a little blah, but then the characters get a lot more interesting. Just search for "Zhang Liang" and that'll pull up the relevant lessons.

I guess I could vote for "Noodles without Cilantro", or whatever it's called, just because I was so shocked there was a lesson deliberately suited to one of my few significant eating issues in Asia. (I'm still waiting for sea cucumber or organ meat to come up.)

You can view the lessons by both ranking and popularity, so that way you can see which are ranked highest and which are most popular ("Guess What I'm Learning", apparently.) I'm not entirely sure how these rankings are determined, but the function is there.

Other than that... the lessons are at a pretty consistent level of quality. Just browse for what's interesting for you. Do be aware that lesson styles vary quite a bit over time: the first 20 intermediate are very different in style from the most recent 20, for example. If you find one lesson has a teaching style that doesn't suit you at all, move ahead or back 20, and it may work out.

OK, instead of telling me your "best lesson" how about just your favorite lesson?? I already finished Newbie and I am doing Elementary and Intermediate now. Thanks.

I hate to be appear too logical italiana, but if you want to learn everything and anything, then there is no such thing as a 'best lesson'...

But as YantaiGuy says, you probably need to at least get the order right, by starting off at the right level, and moving up.

My own bottom - ahem, I mean opinion - is that a lesson has to be interesting to be easily and quickly learned. So I tend to find the lessons on travel and food very important, but the business language lessons less so. I respect your enthusiasm, but I suggest you set yourself some more precise short and medium term goals. Then 'forza italiana!' ;-)

The best advice I think any of us can give you is;

"start at the beginning, and when you get to the end, stop."

Not quite. Definitely start with the newbie stuff first, but what I do, and this helps me, is go around talking to yourself about your day, and create statements and questions you want to be able to say in Chinese. That way what you learn stays relevant. But opinions are like bottoms here, everyone's got one.

Italiana,

I think that it depends entirely on the kind of vocabulary you want to learn, and the level that you are at (always better to choose something slightly out of your grasp, IMHO)
