I don't think it was personal, they must have had some problems with the group.

Bazza,
Yes, you are right, i had been kicked out of the chinesepod QQ group! I don't know why? Did i do something wrong? I don't think so!
Anyway, it is okay, i am not going to rejoin it! Thank you all the same, bazza!

Yeah, you click that X button in the top right ;)
(I hate how that completely shuts it down, rather than minimizing like MSN does)

Does QQ have a stealth work mode? It has too many popups and stuff to put on my work computer. hehe

Hey all.. please try adding me again if you did in the past few weeks. My QQ really has a hard time finding the serve, probably because I have to go through a proxy (even though the tech support said that isn't needed any more, even my web browsers have to be set up with a proxy...weird).
My QQ #: 307188017

Cassie, same thing seems to have happened to you, I'd invite you back in, except I have no clue how to. I can approve you if you rejoin though.

Bazza,
老地方见means "meet at the same place that we often meet" 马上就到means "come immediately"
我得走了/我必须要走了means i have to go now!

I've discovered it does work on my phone, the characters just don't show in the text input window but they do show up in the chat window and I can see what I'm typing as my chinese input software using a separate input window. The input window must use a different font or something.
手机QQ has a list of 常用语 to save time, what does 老地方见 mean? And does 马上就到 mean "I have to go now“?

I've tried 手机QQ but it looks like it's not going to fully work on my phone. :(
All of the interface and menus display correctly in Chinese, but it won't display any inputted characters it seems.

Is it usual practise to stay invisible on QQ? Most people seem to I've noticed.

To add to what Casie just said, Bazza's number is for the group chat, not to individually sign onto QQ, so you will need to sign up (follow my instructions on the "MSN and QQ" lesson page and let me know if there is any problems) and then follow Bazza's instructions here on how to add/use the group.

You can also use QQ to speak to each other via mic or webcam like skype. Yes, everyone need their own number and after you get your own number you can add the number bazza posted above to join Chinesepod QQ group.

Does QQ allow you to actually speak to each other like Skype or is it just for texting each other? Sorry to be so dense. And does everyone need their own number or do we just use the number Bazza has posted?

@calkins: I've downloaded both the Windows and Mac clients and I'm not overly impressed with either. They seem bloated and not very user friendly. I am not really a fan of Skype, but use it because of the contacts I have on there.
You can connect to QQ through Adium (my favourite IM client so far) on the Mac. I haven't found a way to add groups though. If you have any luck I'd be interested in hearing it.

Or does it do that anyway in the record window? Maybe I just notifications with being a manager.

Now I'm a manager on the group, it logs all the posts for me. So be careful what you say about when I'm not there. ;)

I downloaded it on my mac laptop last night, and everything seems to work alright (had a quick chat with Cassie). Hopefully I won't get any of the bugs people were talking about....knock on titanium.
Maybe it's just the mac version, but I don't see what all the fuss is about. Personally, I think Skype is a lot more user-friendly. Could someone enlighten me....please!

QQ is a web tool for people to communicate ,it is very popular in China, like MSN.
You can IM your friends and play games with your friends, and also you can write your own blog and share with others. If you have QQ you can join groups and talk with many people at the same time.
Btw, there are many cute ,interesting and funny incoms, i like them very much.
Bazza,
I get a new QQ number and i want to in^_^

It is possible to use wakan's popup tool on QQ, although it's a little temperamental.

There is an English version available but apparently it's more basic than the Chinese version. See the MSN and QQ topic.

I'd be interested in getting QQ and chatting to other people on ChinesePod, but I haven't started learning characters yet. Will anyone be typing pinyin on QQ, or are you all planning to stick to characters?
Also, is it possible to download a version of QQ that uses English, rather than characters as in Bazza's screenshot?
Thanks!
