ChinesePod, you took my money, I'd like it back

July 14, 2014 at 07:30 PM posted in General DiscussionI cancelled my subscription two days ago. I recieved a pop-up saying a customer service representative would contact me within 24 hours to cancel my subscription. After 36 hours with no contact, I went to your site and cancelled it again.
I just recieved a notification that an automatic payment of $29 was sent to CHINESEPOD LIMITED today...48 hours after I cancelled my subscription. Now your site says that my Premium Subscription will expire today, even though you have now been payed.
I would like my money back...and I would like it back quickly.
Thank you.

I don't think it would make it any easier to reclaim money already paid. But it does mean that any transaction requires your permission (a 'transaction here including an agreement to bill recurrently). And any transaction can be cancelled by you before the money is actually deducted.
It also makes it very easy for people to pay YOU ... all they need to know is the email address associated with your Paypal account. Only drawback there is that there is a small fee, and the payer gets to decide which one of you pays the fee.

No, it was when I would do direct billing through the merchants. I am thinking of taking your suggestion of using paypal in the future, but I was wondering if it would solve the problem of merchants that bill you for services not received, or for services you want to discontinue without hassle.

Was this problem on Paypal? Because any cancellation I've done via Paypal has been effective immediately.

Thanks. This was a problem I was seeing with 6 other merchants I've been dealing with. The credit card company would utter something around they can't do anything because the merchant is making the claim or something.

With Paypal, a recurrent payment is set up WITHIN your Paypal account. You have the ability to cancel any recurrent payment at any time, without anyone's permission. CPod would then try to ask for their money but would not have access to your funds. Believe me, this is the way I have been doing it - I don't trust CPod.

Just for my own knowledge, doesn't Paypal require the merchant to cancel the subscription first before it takes action?

The question is, why should you even need to be contacted by customer service in order to cancel your subscription.
I advise everyone to pay using Paypal, so you can cancel from your Paypal account.
