Dear Amber Theme Song
sparechange
January 14, 2008 at 06:43 PM posted in General DiscussionI may be the only schmuck who cares, but I just stumbled across the Dear Amber theme song in a totally different context and found out the name of the song and who does it. I almost flipped out at first, because I could hear it coming from my office mate's computer, and I thought he was listening to DA. :P
Anyway, the song is called Young Folks by Peter Bjorn and John. The album is called Writer's Block.
More importantly, I got to listen to the whole song (beyond the whistling that gets stuck in your head for hours), and I'm pretty sure it's one of the coolest songs I've ever heard. Especially when it gets to the chorus. Pretty sure I'll be spending some time checking into these guys when I get home tonight.

I like this song too. Believe it or not I just heard it in the grocery store this evening. A welcome musical diversion
There are several versions on youtube. This one is interesting. (Blue Grass style)

A good melody can work in several genres. Good Pick Amber.

Wow....this is one of those songs that hit my stomache like a brick. It's just that heavy in my chest; love at first listen. Amber, I'm liking your taste in music.

Funny, just today I was listening to a few advanced lessons and was actually wondered if Jenny and Connie listen to the dialog when they tell us we are going to listen to it, or if they just kind of keep on talking after they say that. So now I wonder if they even hear the dialog before doing the podcast, or if they just have the dialog printed out with "A" and "B" as the names in the dialog, thus John making his gender mistake.

I agree, excellent choice for a theme song, Amber. Thanks sparechange for the post! Bazza, I figured they must be doing the dialogue afterwards because I've heard definitely heard John and Jenny say "he" when it was a "she" in the dialogue a few times..

Sorry I can't tell you those, Jenny made me promise they had to stay a secret. :P

I did the exact same thing! It was coming from my sister's room and I thought -WHAT! She's a in-the-closet Cpoddie! But alas, she just had her radio on. And I thought I had someone else to practice with. :(

It's a good song. I was expecting to hear when I was on the show but it's added afterwards.
I'll let you into another well kept secret, the dialogues are added to the lessons afterwards as well. ;)

I'll have to get back to you on that one. The cool-points-o-meter is undergoing some behind-the-scenes scheduled maintenance, and will likely be bug-ridden for the next couple weeks.
I hope you don't get sued either. It would be tragic if you had to use a theme by the News & Features guy.

I saw these guys in concert a few months ago, the song is quite well-known now but here they're still playing small clubs in front of audiences of several hundred people tops. The whistling song was, for North American audiences, more or less "discovered" by Pitchfork magazine about a year or so ago. But it remained not more than a cult hit in North America until it was featured on an episode of Grey's Anatomy last season. Then all of a sudden in mid-September it started popping up on new TV series all over the place - Dirty Sexy Money, Gossip Girl and Big Shots to name a few - and a few articles were written about this big coincidence. I believe the official video for it is an animated version, but for fun here's a user-made video that shows all of the shows in which it has appeared:

Dear Amber premiered just before these other shows aired though, so ChinesePod was definitely ahead of the curve. Maybe Dear Amber was what inspired all those copycats!

Amber: Did you pick the song? Because you may have just earned some cool points if you did.

sparechange,
Glad we have the same taste in music.
TaiPan,
Sad we don't have the same taste in music.

Yeah, I saw on their Myspace page where it was the iTunes song of the year or something. Shows how much I've been paying attention. It's really quite sad, actually. For being a musician, I'm finding out more and more how much good music I don't know about.

Yeah, same, I heard it first on CPod, even though it was quite a hit.

Sparechange, this is how you know you spend far too much time on Cpod. ;-)
Sebire, thanks for the link. You've accidentally put the period at the end of it but if anyone else wants to use it, just remove it and the link works fine.

It's on myspace. I think it was something like www.myspace.com/peterbjornandjohn.
