Audio in China without vpn

March 30, 2012 at 01:59 PM posted in General DiscussionHi, ever since the site upgrade a month or so ago I have been unable to get any audio from the site without vpn (I am based in SH). This includes trying to right-click on the lesson mp3 links to "save as", which just hangs forever. I am unable to put a vpn on my main work laptop, so have had to resort to using my other half's laptop to download all the lessons and then transfer them onto my laptop. I have tried multiple internet connections around the city, e.g. home wifi, work network, blue frog, wagas, element fresh, various other bars/cafes' wifi - but all to no avail. I don't have any problem getting on the cpod website itself - so i don't believe it's blocked. But just none of the audio is working - perhaps your s3.contents.chinesepod.com links are blocked at the moment??
Any help appreciated. Cpod is based in SH, so have any of you guys had the same problem in absence of vpn?

Sounds good Jenny. Would love to come. Are full details of time and date being advertised anywhere on the site?

That's very good to know! BTW, we are organizing a meetup in 2 weeks on Huashan Road. Hope to see you there!

Jenny, interestingly I seem to have solved the issue. I just logged off from the CPOD website and re-logged in again (something I haven't done for several years I think!). At the same time, I exited our internal company Instant Messaging system. Now, the audio players all seem to be working. Very strange, but good.

Thanks for the reply Jenny. I work at bund centre which isn't too far from you guys I think. I'm getting an upgrade to Windows 7 in a couple of weeks from my company. I'll wait to see if that sorts out the issue. If not I may take you up on your kind offer.

I asked around some friends and colleagues. They don't seem to have this problem. It has been fine for me both in the office and home. If the audio works with a VPN on, then it's not a hardware problem with your computer and it might be a network issue.
Which part of Shanghai are you in? Maybe we can arrange a meeting and sort this out.
