Anyway, I'd just love to get to the point where I could pump out 60-90 seconds on the trot without making a mistake...I look at your unblemished transcriptions and I am very 吃醋！

But seriously, it's really good having everyone one around (our esteemed classmates) in a 'safe' learning environment, free from put-downs and lot's of encouragement and 加油ing and stuff like that, otherwise it would be very easy to get discouraged with learning 中文 and give up, or worse yet - not try at all.

fair comment, that probably is more my style - but to be honest mate, the edits I suggested were completely minor and lots of times we know the word in our mind, but the darn pinyin input tools auto-select the wrong one (this happens to me loads). If you're making that few typos with your "no-frills" approach then you're def ahead of me in your listening comprehension. PS - I reckon our actual transcribing time was only about an hour or two, it was just in 2 or 3 bursts during the last day ;-)

Yeah, pats on the back all round. What did it take? A mere 18-19 hours to transcribe 14-15 minutes of dialogue?

I think we're two very different 'transcribers'. I'm more no-frills, get it down no matter what type, whereas you seem more like the meticulous and fastidious type, always correcting my sloppy mistakes, but Together Everyone Achieves More!

Hey, I'm wondering if this "out of the blue" laser security door system" is like a subtle clue to the latest Detective Li burglary case that John has buried in another lesson? I reckon that magician could do some pretty nifty things cracking laser locks. What was all that smoke about after all?..interfering with the laser beam, smoke and mirror style? His hot little fingers were so hot they were smokin' [and thus deforming his natural finger prints]...

I've actually had experience with 复杂门 （complicated doors) - 我去配钥匙，but I obviously didn't go to the 开锁大王, as the key was rather thick and difficult to cut, as opposed to one of the 'flatter' keys which are relatively easy to cut.

Eventually got the problem sorted (i.e. the key cut) by getting a Chinese colleague to sort it out (who probably went to a Key King). But I can definitely relate to this dialogue after living in an apartment with 2 other people and only having 1 key between us, that, for a time at least, seemed impossible to 配。

But I have no experience with 'laser security door' systems...

oh, thanks mate. Sorry, just jumping in as I did, I wasn't certain. And yeah, that makes sense, especially when you don't catch something it can make you wonder if there was something key [pardon the pun] in the bit you missed that triggered the subsequent comment. Yeah, I guess complicated/expensive just made John think of some laser type. I'm not up on all the high tech locks there are. [ I prefer to leave everything wide open with a big welcome sign to come in if you dare, hehe ].

my point was more that J and J had already been discussing complicated doors, but then John suddenly mentions a very specific type of complicated door, i.e. laser. I wondered whether that bit of Jenny's speech that we couldn't quite catch might have been something about lasers, such that it triggered John's comment.

..amongst the 3 entry options is a mechanical key as an emergency backup. I'm not sure if that's what John had in mind or not. Was that what your question was about?

..only thing is, there's not enough info on that lock as far as I can see, so I'm not sure if that's just a brand name or not.

There are laser cut keys, but the way John put it, it sounded a lot more high tech, complicated and modern.

也需要 may be right, but I think it sounds a little more like 也许要 which I also think makes a little more sense, but I may well be wrong. Interested in what everyone thinks.

I mean if it's about the laser security door systems, it doesn't seem out of the blue to me. Aren't they just talking about the cost of getting extra keys cut [ John was asking Jenny]?..and they were just saying they're usually only a few kuai, but Jenny was saying it's one of these more fuza 复杂 ..complicated one's then it can start to get expensive. So jenny mentions fuza..complicated and John then says laser..referring to the complicated ones. It seems to follow. I'm not sure how this laser system works but he must have something in mind. Hehe, reminds me a bit of the pink panther, or a few other movie scenes I've seen where the theives have to dodge the laser beems. But I guess he probably has some other system in mind.
