John: 倒霉。All-right, so what happened to this guy?
John: OK, 昨晚 that's another way of saying...
John: OK, then he's talkin' about a person, who is this person?
John: All-right, this is the word for neighbour, right?

John: Hi Intermediate learner's you're listening to ChinesePod, I'm John
Dilu: 你好我是 迪璐. 今天将什么呀？
John: Today we're talking about luck and not just any luck, but bad luck
Dilu: 嗯， 今天有一个人很倒霉
John: So somebody is unlucky, they're having an unlucky day and the word for unlucky here is...
Dilu: 倒霉， 倒霉
John: OK, third tone, second tone
Dilu: 嗯， 那为什么他很倒霉呢？
John: Yeah, so the story is comin' up, let's listen
John: OK, so it's like a long time, like continuously playing the drums all the way until 12:30
John: Yeah, without stopping
John: OK, so he didn't sleep well and then...
John: OK, so here we have a pattern. These aren't hard words, but um, notice that in Chinese you kind of repeat them, where you don't have to in English...so these two words I'm talking about are...
John: Right, in English we say 'because something blah blah blah...' or something happened 'so'...
John: But in Chinese you use them both in the same sentence
John: Right, so you don't absolutely have to use them both in one sentence, but you frequently see it that way, right?
John: So because he didn't sleep well 所以 what?
John: OK, so 心情 that's like a mood right?
Dilu: 啊，没错。第一声和第二声， 心情
John: So his mood was bad, he was in a bad mood
John: OK, so 掉了两百块钱 does that mean he dropped 200RMB or he lost 200RMB?
John: So practicing playing the drums
John: So playing the drums in Chinese is...
Dilu: 打鼓， 打鼓。Literally it's 'beating the drum'
John: OK, two 3rd tones
John: And then how long?
John: OK, so 直到 is that different from just 到？Like until...
