I have a foreign friend who is coming to Shanghai. He'd like to visit some of Shanghai's distinctive buildings. Tell me, what places should I take him to?
那还不简单。去东方明珠和金茂大厦啊，这两个可是上海的标志性建筑。
nà hái bùjiǎndān。qù Dōngfāngmíngzhū hé Jīnmàodàshà a，zhè liǎng ge kěshì Shànghǎi de biāozhìxìng jiànzhù。
It's not easy to say. Go to the Oriental Pearl Tower and the Jinmao Tower-- those two buildings are symbolic of Shanghai.
金茂大厦还是算了吧。虽说金茂大厦号称世界第三高楼，可是毕竟国外高楼林立，到处是摩天大楼，不稀奇。东方明珠电视塔倒是可以带他去看看。这11个大小不一、高低错落的球体，从天空串落到草地上，还是很有特色的。

Forget about the Jinmao Tower. Although the Jinmao Tower claims to be the third highest building in the world, there are a ton of skyscrapers in other countries, after all. Everywhere you go are skyscrapers. They're not rare at all. On the other hand, I could take him to see the Oriental Pearl TV Tower. It has eleven balls of different sizes. Their heights are staggered in a row leading from the heavens down to the Earth. It's really distinctive.

Well, of course. A lot of people call the Pearl Tower's architecture new and innovative, with a strong Oriental charm. And the observation deck at the top of the tower is the best place to get a bird's eye view of the whole city. But if he's not too interested in modern architecture, you could still go check out Shanghai's old-style buildings. There are the shikumen, the temple of the town god, and so on. Aren't those distinctive?
