The old Silk Road spanned the Nile, Tigris and Euphrates river basins, the Indus and the Ganges river basins, the Yellow river and the Yangtze river deltas, spanning the cradle of the Egyptian, Babylonian, Indian and Chinese civilizations, the gathering places for Buddhists, Christians and Muslims, different nations and the homelands of people of different skin colors.

Ancient ports, such as Jiuquan, Dunhuang, Turpan, Kashgar, Samarkand, Baghdad, Constantinople, Ningbo, Quanzhou, Guangzhou, Beijing, Colombo, Jeddah and Alexandria are living fossils which carry this era within them. History tells us, civilisation develops with openness, peoples coexist in melting pots.

Learning from each other’s examples. The old Silk Road was not just a trading route, but also a channel for the exchange of knowledge. China passed silk, pottery, lacquerware and iron ware to the West, while China received pepper, linen, spices, grapes and pomegranate.
