February 18, 2011 at 7:53 AMJust wondering if anyone from Cpod still checks these older lesson conversations or do we need to post somewhere else?

February 15, 2011 at 2:49 AMYes the lesson is essentially basic Chinese but I found the audio review and expansion quite challenging, mostly because of what most people have talked about "guo". It's a little confusing when to use "guo" and when to use "le" and why you can use them both together in the same sentence. I too have only ever noticed people ask 吃饭了吗?(chi fan le ma?)but nice to hear variations seeing as living in China, you get met with many variations everyday :-)

February 14, 2011 at 2:35 AMHi, I can't remember the age limit on a working visa if it is 60 or 65? but I think the hardest thing would probably be actually getting your foot in the door. Once in the system probably no problem...but I'm no expert on this matter. To teach English, you will need some sort of ESL-TEFL certificate. The companies that train you (before you come here) to get one of these will probably be able to tell you more about the age limits and job prospects.

February 14, 2011 at 2:27 AMI have been here nearly 3 years now, still teaching English in the same school that I first arrived here at in China. I was lucky and have been well looked after, all expenses basically paid including a nice apartment. It has been the biggest learning experience of my life and learning to live the Chinese lifestyle is full of challenges. It can drive you crazy but at the same time be so fulfilling. Another thing to mention is that most schools will also pay for you to fly back home every year during the holiday period.

February 14, 2011 at 1:29 AMI've been living in China a few years know and am embarrassed to say I have only been an on and off again learner, learning mostly by immersion...I decided to finally get serious :-)
In regards to this lesson I hear variations and even on the audio review I find it a little confusing. For example : If you say "Her name is Zhang Ming"...It seems you can say "Tā jiào Zhāng Míng", then it exchanges from jiao to mingzi in this sentence "Tāde míngzi bù shì lǐ dōng" and here in my city in Hubei I'm sure I've heard things such as "Tāde míngzi jiào Zhāng Míng"
It's good to know all the varients but I wonder what is the most plain, simple and acceptable way. People are always asking my dogs name so I use this quite alot and I never am really sure if I am correct when I answer. Even less sure now :-)
By the way...this is by far the most effective, fun addictive way of learning Chinese I have come across. I already knew the basics and have strong pinyin etc but I have found starting at the very begining here at C.Pod, recognising characters and learning full use of words I have picked up whilst living here much easier with Chinese Pod...Thanks guys!你辛苦了,谢谢你们.
