October 6, 2009 at 2:53 AMcarlos_in_irvine, interestingly enough, I'm getting the message "提示 The clip has been blocked in your region." California? Does the Great Firewall block content from leaving China?

October 3, 2009 at 3:34 PMJoachim, the car reminds me of the old Soviet-style limos that used to roar through Beijing in the pre-traffic-jam bicycle days.

October 3, 2009 at 4:59 AMIn all seriousness, that's some pretty impressive marching. Looks like a Marxist-Leninist parade with Chinese Characteristics. (具有中国特色的马克思列宁主义的的阅兵式?)

October 3, 2009 at 4:05 AM@orangina, well, I'm no expert on what a high heel is, so I'll defer to your judgement. I saw a similar parade in Taiwan once replete with stylishly clad young, female soldiers. Only they didn't goose step in their skirts. Sigh...

October 3, 2009 at 2:23 AM@tal. Some of the news reports described the female soldiers footwear as "jackboots." High heeled jackboots?

October 2, 2009 at 7:44 PM@jweissgerber, as an evil businessman I found the interview interesting. I believe that Chinesepod has always been about Chinese culture as well as language. Dear Amber definitely (with a focus on the expat scene) and Qing Wen sometimes as well.
Regarding Chinese culture, I think its interesting that the old hierarchy, 士/农/工/商 has been rearranged. I don't know what other people's opinion is, but it seems to me like it probably goes more like 管/商/士/工/农 (管 would be a Communist Party official).
