October 29, 2008 at 3:30 PMI find the subtle racism inherent in chinese culture towards those with darker skin to be pretty offensive. As a black person living in China I am particularly sensitive to this. People are constantly complaining about getting darker because it makes them look like the "lesser" asians from South East asia. Thanks chinesepod for not even addressing that issue. For those who missed it, Cassie was complaining she was getting blacker from the sun--which of course she said she hated.

August 13, 2008 at 1:15 PMClearly Dave was not popular for some very good reasons. I just hope Chinesepod considers his points because they resonated with me. I would like to get more out of the advanced classes. They definitely feel more like culture shows than they do language lessons. I don't think that point can be disputed very easily.

August 12, 2008 at 1:14 PMBeneath Dave's bluntness and outrageously inappropriate style existed some really intelligent criticisms. It's a shame he was banned for simply being rude. Where am I supposed to go to get some entertainment amidst all the thank you comments? Chinesepod had certainly embraced the draconian/communist side of it's locale, that's for sure.

October 29, 2008 at 4:23 PMTvan, it's very condescending of you to even act like you understand the black experience living in China. I know the intellectual roots of why it's bad to be dark skinned. It doesn't change the reality of the situation. People with darker skin are more often than not looked down upon as inferior compared to their ivory skinned peers. Did I mention that I live in China? I don't need to read into the comment. I live the experience.
