If it helps to remember "going to" and getting off work, I associate 上午 with 上班 and 下午 with 下班.

Jenny, You mention the early 80's as if it was long ago!  I have been married since long before that.  It goes by so quickly!  我已婚了.  Short and sweet lesson. Thanks, Tom

My chinese name is 汤伟博 and sometimes when I introduce myself in Beijing or Shanghai, people giggle and say it sounds like the name of a popular singer. Is it true, or are they just having (more) fun with me?
