Since you erased my comment from 10/10/18, does that mean you only accept positive remarks? Your commenting policy says that you want to be helpful to Chinese learners. My comment said, in effect, that this lesson is so remote from anything useful and so inherently incomprehensible, that it does not meet that standard.

My intent is not to be critical, but phrases like "...just standing there brightly" don't mean anything in this context. I suspect that phrases like "...Merlin - nerds who read all kinds of wired high-end books (like Calvino’s Trolltech Universe Collection)" don't mean anything in English or in Chinese.  You need someone with a native command of English to help determine whether an individual lesson has value for students.

Please review this lesson with a critical eye to evaluate whether its content advances the cause of learning advanced Chinese.

The person who wrote this lesson (or perhaps the translator) believes that he/she understands English. That is not the case. Much of what is said in this lesson would never be spoken by a native English speaker. Many of the points made would not be understood by an educated native speaker of English. If this dialog makes sense in Chinese - I'm not convinced it does - it makes little or no sense in English.  It, in fact, it sounds like someone trying very hard to impress others that he/she knows something he/she doesn't. If you doubt the point I am making, try reading the English to Fiona and ask her to comment. In fact, that might be a good rule to follow for all advanced lessons.
