August 7, 2008 at 3:57 AMYeah! That's what I thought, too! My guess is that they probably didn't use 石头,剪刀,布 to aid in decision-making, but rather as a way to pass time. On the other hand, one would think that a warlord would have better ways of passing time besides playing 石头,剪刀,布. Anyways, I just thought that was an interesting tid-bit. I learned something new today! (yay, me!) Hopefully you all found that interesting, as well.

August 7, 2008 at 2:14 AM大家好!
I looked into the origin of 石头,剪刀,布, and it seems that relatively little is known about where this game came from. According to Wikipedia , the game originates in China, dating back to 汉朝 (han4 chao2,Han Dynasty). Supposedly it was very popular among the warlords. It seems Ken hit the nail on the head with his theory.
Hope this helps!

P.S.,
bpeacock, There is no need to rely on 石头,剪刀,布 when you are having trouble with anything Chinese-related; Just ask! Much more reliable, I think. ;)

Honestly, I am stumped as to why your new teacher would refer to herself in the third person. Is it a cultural thing? Probably not. If she is Chinese and she refers to herself with her English name in the third person, it could just be that the name sounds foreign to her and she hasn't really embraced it, causing her to use the name as though it is not her own. That theory might be totally out there and it might seem that I pulled it out of... a hat, but that is all I can come up with :s Anybody else have any feedback?
