I don't intend to change your last name, just wondering why you did not choose 司徒, another double chinese last name (雙姓), which is not that uncommon, pronounciation is seemingly closer to Stout if that is indeed your last name.

Hi d_d, Unsure if this 女生是不是台灣人,if yes, d sounds like 豬 meaning pig , d Tao2 (pig head in Taiwanese), for whatever the reason she banters you, judging from your conclusion, she is still lovable, it's not vicious : 沒有悪意。ESP depends how she says it , not what she says it.  Over all it means 儍頭儍腦, not sneaky, shrewd, too calculating, too smart.

The difference btw 说/讲is very much like talk and speak. I was born in China and grew up in Taiwan, I can say I have used them equally. 演讲,演說 are more serious with a podium, 你們在説(讲)些什麼,both are fine。Give a talk is informal, give a speech is formal. Same with talk a talk, speak a speech. On the phone, you say: "may I speak with so and so," more formal than "let me talk to him," in conclusion, 多聼多說。You will master 中文。 Li Wei 李暐,most influential Chinese artist came to my local museum, I was his press translator, he said 自由不恐懼freedom has no fear, referring to His anti-gravity performance art. As 2015 new year wish to you: practice has no fear.
