Thoroughly enjoying the poems, too. I've wanted to read more Chinese literature, and as with learning the 二胡,there's not enough time. These lessons give a good sense for Chinese poetry styles & common topics.

Length was just fine.

谢谢你们的这次课。我认为最难听懂就是电视、收音机讲的中文。

请你们提供关于上海有名的主持人--她是收音机节目的主持人,名字可能是雪丽?她获了好几次的主持人的奖。

Excuse me, I just read the note about including English translation -- though this isn't a Newbie or Elementary, here is what I posted just above:

urcto,

The poem you shared is very pretty, but I wanted to ask: in this line, are there supposed to be two different characters?

when the swallow(the kind of bird) character returns, the moon fills the western tower

Isn't it "when the wild goose returns, the moon fills the western tower"?

My Chinese name is "wild goose", and I thought swallows stay in the same place all year, while the big wild goose (the other bird pronounced yan4) leaves in autumn and returns in the spring, is that the case?

urcto,

As a suggestion for future vocab tours... a tour of a middle school (初中/高中都可以)would be really great.  Including whatever it may be that they call the morning exercises out in the courtyard.

Thanks!

These videos are great -- specifically, they may encourage me to continue my subscription.  I am using them in my Chinese classes (I teach kids) and they are an unreplaceable way to introduce a Chinese environment, though in a small way, to the classroom here in the USA!

Nice job.

I was thankful that the police took my foreign-accented, very agitated phone call seriously.

Once from my apartment window (on the 6th floor) I observed more than a normal street fight: a group of men were attacking one man, using wooden sticks as well as their fists. I was far enough away that they didn't hear me shout out the window "我看你们!”(I see you) in a pitiful attempt to scare them. I called 119 and the police DID come, and soon -- but after the group had carried the man down the alley. I have no idea what happened after that, or what the original situation really was.

I have a couple slight differences in translation on the Expansion section, as follows:

这么出去
(Spending money to go out on such a hot day--I can't imagine anything more torturous.)

I don’t think the Chinese indicates that money is being spent in order to go out.  More like: “Going out on such a hot day – it’s like paying money to be tortured!”

如果动完手术调理不好,会留下病根的。
(After an operation, if you don't look after yourself well you won't get rid of your problem.)

I think it should be more like: “After an operation if you don’t recuperate well, the root of the illness may remain.”  Ok, maybe that’s too subtle a difference to point out.  Can a native speaker check me?
