Since holiday is really "holy day" it is appropriate for any occasion of a religious origin, be it Christmas (or Saturnalia) or Spring Festival. But one might have a festival on a holiday. No idea why in much of the English speaking word any day away from the normal routine of life has become holy, but who am I to argue.

I just have to comment on how sad it is that McDonald's has been referenced in a discussion about cheese... Not that I am blaming anyone... it is a fact of life in China. But it reminds me of when one of my friends commented that the only time in her life she ate raw vegetables was the lettuce on her McDonald's hamburger. I almost cried. This is what she thinks of raw vegetables??? No wonder she didn't join us at dinner (featuring a lovely shredded cabbage salad,) claiming she had already eaten... McDonald's cheese isn't as offensive as McDonald's lettuce however. At least it serves the purpose of gluing the bun to the meat.

If you aren't used to cheese I'd say start with a medium cheddar or a jack. Work your way up to the hard stuff... and by the hard stuff I mean the soft stuff.

I have a friend visiting from France. Well, I never met her before, but she brought chèvre, chocolate and rosé, so now she is a friend for life.

啊！很有用的！I probably just made up a weird sentence. Sometimes I forget the KISS method of communication. Keep It Simple, Stupid! Actually, this often applies even when everyone speaks the same language.

I would also like to know how 念 fits in... I was told it means to read aloud. But I've used it when asking for help reading something and don't seem to be understood.

Yeah tal, I usually say 没有钱，but today he went into quite the sob story so I said 不好意思，我说的不好，听不懂。But I think the jig is up and I can't fake ignorance anymore. It is true I did not get every nuance of his tale, but I understood fairly clearly. Too bad he didn't have some funky accent I don't get yet. But I like your "你知道吗？“ I'm going to add that to my repertoire.

好玩！我知道所有用的词，还学习新结构。很有用的。可能最近我说的跟宝宝不一样。How should I say that? Perhaps soon I will stop talking like a baby.

Actually some guy called me 美女 today and then proceeded to ask me for money to feed his young son. After I said no and kept walking down the street he chased me for a bit and I heard a 漂亮 thrown in for good measure. Now, I am a regular enough looking person, nothing outstanding. So usually when I get it I chalk it up to good manners (or the fact that I am white as a ghost and nothing else matters.) But today it just pissed me off. I have a cold, probably red eyes, and if not at least mouth breathing which I am aware is not a cute look. So the whole 美女，请问，你能帮助我吗 thing is manipulative enough on its own, but today just pretty insulting.

Tomorrow I will look back and say 没事，it is just his culture.
