I love how Ken in the lesson talks about this sugary-politeness... In fact (I just know it from the theory from my course of studies, so maybe natives or more experienced people can correct me) they say that in Chinese this degree of politeness is highly required. It is even required to deny an offer for a few times to be polite. At least that's what scientists of comparative pragmatics say :D
