John, Thanks for the translation. Slight tweaks in a sentence can change the meaning entirely and make the differences stick - I find. Amber, you are red-hot on grammar and I am green with envy! You are teaching us new positions linguistically as well as with toilet training! So versatile.;-)

John, how could this dialogue be rewritten in chinese- "I am only kidding, it really only costs 8rmb, what do you think this is, a five star hotel?" Thanks.

I like this expressions Feihua - I guess it translates loosely to something like "No shit Sherlock" This must have been used a lot in the dubbing of the movie Napoleon Dynamite into Chinese with every utterance laced with cynicism.
