I mean the line(s) that mikeinewshot referred to above, which talks about the Pacific Ocean and the Ring of Fire. John & Jenny explained them in the banter, but they're not on the dialogue script. I assume they were edited out at some point between recording and publication. And a vocab request: how would you say "It was a 7.8." 是七點八度的地震? Thanks.

Another odd note: entering the title of this lesson, 自然災害, in the "find a lesson about" box returns... nothing. I need to just enter 自然. (At least "natural disasters" also works.)

April 12, 2008 at 3:18 PMUnravelling what I think was a misunderstanding way back when... changye's 沙拉酱 (sha1 la1 jiang4) is NOT satay/ sate. 沙拉 means salad, and 沙拉酱 is literally "salad sauce", a common name for mayonnaise in China. light487, is that why you remarked "I like satay"? Anyway, just thought I'd warn you that asking for barbecued chicken with 沙拉酱 is not going to give you any of that lovely peanut flavour!

April 2, 2008 at 9:32 AMI think what I like best about the podcast is how Ken translates the (translation really unnecessary) "啊" to 哎喲. Ｉunderstand where he's coming from... 哎喲 has pretty much entered my English as well.

March 31, 2008 at 3:46 AMI'm curious about this line: 定是他们合成的。 Should it be 它们 instead of 他们? Should the sentence be parsed "It must be that they [the photos] are altered", or "It must be they [unnamed evildoers] altered [the photos, unnamed]." I assume the follow-up will introduce lots of Photoshop vocab as Liu Jia goes CSI and explains the different tools used in the set-up photos: palettes, layers, different brushes, and so on. Cultural comment: I've found that 可能, in the Chinese language, often doesn't mean possibly/ maybe at all. We do the same thing in English ("We'll be in touch"), but it seems to be a little more common in Chinese.

March 12, 2008 at 4:40 AMNow that I've listened to the lesson... fantastically well done. A touch easy for an intermediate, so it's bridging the Ellie/ Int gap. Great explanation and parsing throughout, with a good level of detail for the different sentence and usage patterns. It wasn't just a summary of the vocabulary. Thanks a million John and Jenny! Maybe one day I'll even be able yongbudao and yongdedao in natural conversation.

March 11, 2008 at 2:40 PMBack in the day in Laos we bought China-made AA batteries to power a diskman. The batteries couldn't do it. I don't mean they ran out of power--I mean they didn't have enough power to activate the darn thing.

May 18, 2008 at 2:40 AMRe: using current podcast illustration: You can cut & paste/ drag & drop the lesson illustration into the Artwork field in iTunes. I've occasionally done this, but doing so definitely falls into the "fritterware"/ procrastination category! Actually, it would be nice if ChinesePod would do this anyway... if my computer (Mac) uses the "Album cover view" screen saver, that woman shows up A LOT, seeing as how I've got about 2200 ChinesePod MP3s.
