Haha.. maybe people got wise to having their internet access stolen. Yes, about a year ago I was there and in the smaller cities it was very common to find unsecured wifi.. not so much in Shanghai though.. :)

I don't really know.. but maybe something like this:

你们有没有免费的上网？

No really sure, sorry.. but this "免费" (miǎnfèi) pairing means "free" in the sense of "no charge". There's another word, when I looked up this meaning: "无偿”, which apparently also means free/no charge but my Chinese friends taught me to use 免费 instead..

Huh?? People secure wifi networks in China? :P Seriously though, I found that 80 to 90% of wifi networks were unsecured.

Hrmm.. really? :) We always tend to say "have a nice weekend" or similar in our office in Sydney. It's not that it is formal or informal.. it's just a nice thing to say to show you care that the other person will enjoy their time off from work.. :)

Speaking of going out, for the weekend or whatever.. I'd like some assistance with a new word I have come across "发" fā. I know that it can be paired with "去" to indicate you are "going out" but I'm uncertain how to form a complete sentence with it. Can you please give some examples?

The best I can come up with is: 这周末我去发

Any surgery can never be 100% safe.. I am scared also even though the success rate is very high and there is really not much to worry about.. I mean.. right now I have to use glasses but at least I can see.. if something did go horribly wrong and I was made blind.. now wouldn't that be bad...

On a side note: I always used to get 眼睛 and 眼镜 mixed up.. haha :) but I have almost fully memorised it now :)

A couple of phrases I use/hear a lot on a daily basis:

下班晚了 - Finished work later than normal.

下班早了 - Finished work earlier than normal.

And of course the reverse, when starting work:

上班晚了 - Started work later than normal.

上班早了 - Started work earlier than normal.

Another useful pair of phrases:

你下班什么时候？ - What time do you finish work?

你上班什么时候？ - What time do you start work?

but really.. my Chinese friends still appreciate the sentiment.. I think it is important to mention that because it is the sentiment from the heart that is important in all communication. So even though 祝你周末快乐 may not be as common or preferred, your friends will still appreciate the gesture..

Yerp! There was of course the "Lesson Dialogue" mp3.. I think that used to be available to basic subscriptions but meh.. it's not like you can't just "rewind" the main MP3 yourself and there are players out there that can do A->B repeating, so you could always set it up to do this yourself.
