June 9, 2012 at 8:56 PMI was also just thinking about this word: 可惡. Could anyone offer an explanation about how this is used.

June 9, 2012 at 8:12 PMYay. I've been hoping for a lesson about this for a while. I hear it used a lot in dramas、but couldn't quite get a sense of how to use it with other words. Thanks!
Posted on: Nothing more than 而已 (eryi) and 罢了 (bale)
November 22, 2010 at 2:23 AMThis is my first post. Being a teacher, I think a lot about context. I noticed the pattern that 而已 seemed to go with nouns in the examples you gave:
a few minutes, that's all / a few sentences, that's all / a few things, that's all / one pair of shoes, that's all
But the 罢了 structure examples seemed to go with verbs:
just talking / just joking / just wants to be friends / can only do
The "adjectives" handsome and upset went both ways.
Am I reading too much into this? Is is really just that one is more common in writing, or is the noun vs. verb thing a pattern in Chinese?

June 10, 2012 at 5:23 PMThanks. I was also able to look at some of the example sentences at
www.nciku.com . It seems it's an adjective, but i always hear it used by itself, so I thought it might be an interjection.
