December 21, 2009 at 12:38 PMHi, a quick grammar question. In Chinese, we usually drop the verb "is", e.g.
Tā hěn cōngming. (He is very smart.)
When using shízài (indeed), is it optional to use shì? Is there a rule? In the Glossary examples some use "...shízài shì..." and others "...shízài...".

Thank you.

December 19, 2009 at 1:37 PMIf we want to say New Year's resolutions, can we say:
新年的计划 - Xīn Nián de jì huà?
on page 3 of the .pdf it should be:
都没有完成 - I didn't finish any of them.

December 19, 2009 at 1:14 PMGreat question, dahouxiaohou, yes, that would be a great 请问. The expression I have heard used most often to say "pay the restaurant bill" is 买单 - mǎidān.

December 13, 2009 at 12:08 PMHi, the team went over how to say "I have mental problems", how would we say "I have a lot on my mind"? As in, I am worried about about a lot of things. Thanks!

December 9, 2009 at 3:12 PMHi, speaking of gliding and slipping, how do we describe a surface as "slippery"? E.g.,
Careful, the kitchen is very slippery.

December 2, 2009 at 1:57 PMCPod, thank you for all the extra examples during the dialogue explanation, those really help.
As fcollins pointed out, 听的见 - tīngdejiàn should be: to be *able* to hear, in the supplementary vocabulary.
Another example of swapping 不 (bù) with 得 (de):
买不起 - mǎibùqǐ - cannot afford
买得起 - mǎideqǐ - can afford
