April 9, 2010 at 9:06 AMGood one orangina. I have been embarrassed by those two once or twice, 所以现在很好记住^__^ If I see them in context. most of the times they don't "get me" but flashing by in Anki they do make me swing and miss, even the really simple ones.

"力" 和 "九"

"已" 和 "己", welcome to the Club of *frequently-used* 汉字 that are really, really hard to tell apart unless ones is looking closely. Had it not been for Mandarin Popup I would have missed it. Other members of the club:

I said to myself...什么什么, i.e., I said to myself: "I must try it." - 我告诉自我。。。(sounds a little awkward...)

April 8, 2010 at 1:46 PMThe two times I have seen 老年人 (lǎoniánrén - elderly) get on the bus in Shanghai, the people closest to the door immediately gave their seats to them, was very nice to see.
BTW, in the Supplementary Vocab, should it be 老年人 (elderly) instead of 老人 (old people)?

背包游 - bèibāoyóu - backpacking
which makes sense when broken down:
背包 - backpack
and
游 (travel).
