In the sentence 我不要咖啡。
不 uses second tone because 要 uses fourth tone. Is that correct? But 不 would normally be a fourth tone? I noticed this is one character that seems to flip-flop based on placement.
There is probably some hard grammar rule hidden in there somewhere.
