Yet all my Taiwanese friends insist on saying "她做事很認真" instead of 她做事做的很認真 or 事她做得很認真

any thoughts?

as to the stingy friend, I'd go with 她才買過三次的單

your dancing example seems right to me, even tough I like the reduplicated verb version better. Don't ask me why but I would insert a 的 Lili的舞跳得很好 to make it sound smoother.

On to "shanging your ke", I agree that the last one sounds weird, yet if you qualify the "class" further it somehow sounds OK (to me at least): 這堂課我上了兩個小時, 王老師j教的課我上了兩個老師, 我住在美國的姐姐兩年前上過的那堂課....you get the idea.

The positioning of the objekt in these kinds of sentenes is very hard to master for non natives well as for chinese teachers to teach as there are many correct ways but in some situations some are preferred over others.

If I where you, I'd give the "stingy person" scenario to a number of native speakers (I am sure they'll pitch in soon here anyway...) and then memorize whatever they tell you sounds most natural under "stingy person scenario" then you go out and TELL a number of native speakers about your stingy friend. After you've done that I guarantee you that it will stick.
