I have just become a fan of fran1942. "White-liberal-male-guilt" and "blow dry" -- I love your turn of phrase! I used to come to CPod just for the lessons (which are always great) and Jenny. Now I login for the discussions, too. This site is awesome, and so are all the posters (even the white liberal males). I think it's time I upgraded my account.

Great lesson! Although it was way above my level, I muddled through. I am a Vietnamese and Japanese speaker learning Mandarin. I find that Vietnamese, with its tones, combined with the kanji used in Japanese, help me to learn Mandarin very easily. Of course, this only gets me so far, as Mandarin idioms have me shaking my head. Thank goodness for Chinesepod.
