June 7, 2010 at 9:54 AMHaving lived in Italy I can say that I know more about soccer than I let on in this show ;) I do like watching it (and love watching football, if you were curious), but I don't follow any particular team (if hard-pressed I might admit a certain loyalty to Parma). It's a very popular sport to play in the US, but it's just never been able to compete with pro basketball, football (US) and baseball. A pity, since it is a major passion for the rest of the world (people might even like us Americans more if we could meaningfully converse over soccer)...

June 7, 2010 at 9:32 AMThis is not a system we created. In fact we were very hesitant to include any romanization system at all, as there is no real standard for Shanghainese. The script you see is IPA (international phonetic alphabet). This is included for reference, but I suggest listening to the audio clips at the sentence level for studying pronunciation.

June 7, 2010 at 2:35 AMThe title was actually kind of a joke. I didn't want to leave it as my original (big damn crabs) for fear of offending anyone. The literal translation of hairy crabs is 大闸蟹 (dàzháxiè) is big + dam/sluice + crabs. Sorry for my corny sense of humor! Anyway people here tend to go for the females I think. Something about the eggs being super delicious.

June 7, 2010 at 2:24 AMThank you for your input. This is the standard pronunciation for the word 运用. It can be confusing because people often swallow the consonant "n" at the end of some words, but this is how you will hear people speaking in general.

Unfortunately this does not come from any undiscovered Henry Miller stories - if it were such a story, it'd probably be too rated-X for Cpod!
