Calicartel- You are correct that 估计 means "to reckon." In this case, our translator has chosen to go with a very spoken-language translation of the statement. Sometimes translations are more literal (word for word translations), sometimes (and this is the kind we prefer on CPod) they aim to convey the meaning and the spirit of the phrase or sentence in English (as we would say it in everyday conversation). The sentence you have highlighted is an example of the latter. You would not be incorrect to say, "I reckon you wouldn't even have noticed if the child and I had died." Hope this makes sense.

Thanks for your thoughts guys. It is clear that Qing Wen is a beloved show and no one wants to see it alternate with our short series on Study Tips. We do really want to provide learners new to Chinese and new to the site with some tools for going about their studies. Haha Cristof! It has been a while. Of course your return to join the discussion of stinky cheese (and stinkier tofu). How decidedly Gallic of you ;) On the topic of French 奶酪, I have to say I'm a big fan of Camembert. (卡门贝干酪, kǎménbèi gānlào).

Yes in America we often use the word "funk" in the place of "stink." It's often used when describing body odor.
