Bodawei,

Not quite a septuagenarian, but I remember in my youth it used to be "After you my dear Alphonse. No. no after you my dear Gaston!"

082257,

Regarding how to re-set clocks for DST, have you heard the saying "Spring forward, Fall back"?

Everyone looks forward to the "Fall back" part because it means you can sleep-in for an extra hour on that day.

I'd second richnirish's description of Halloween for the most part. There is also a certain perverse fun in trying to scare the heck out of people ( a reason I never liked the practice as a kid despite scoring a bag full of candy from the neighbors.)

Once nice innovation of late has been for college students to use the idea of trick or treating to collect canned goods for food banks that serve homeless and folks who can't stretch their incomes to feed their families.

This lesson reminds me of the following:

小老鼠

上灯台

偷油吃

下不来

叫妈妈

妈不来

浠里哗啦

滚下来

Xiao3 lao3 shu3

Shang4 deng1 tai2

Tou1 you5 chi1

Xia4 bu4 lai2

Jiao4 Ma1 ma

Ma1 bu4 lai2

Xi1 li1 hua1 la

Gun3 xia4 lai2

Mikenotinjubei,

I have a similar background. I could still diagram a sentence if I had to, but it is a skill that doesn't seem to be called for very often.

I'm going to really date myself. Does anyone recall Grammar Rock? Check these out.

Pipercub,

I think "Wo mingtian huiguo" is the correct form.

Jeffers,

Try this. Consider it a "two fer" (two lessons in one). You can learn how to count from one to ten in Madaring and how to represent those numbers using "finger counting".
