Posted on: Friends for Dinner
July 16, 2007 at 6:43 PMI'm not sure I will ever use/need this vocabulary (I tend to try everything on the menu). When it comes to food -- I usualy eat it... and point at the menu -- what would have been interesting, is vocab to cover the conversation over dinner : expressions like : this tastes good, what is it? This is not my taste. Could you pass me the rice ? Could you pass me the vegetables ? Careful !! It is hot. Is this spicy ? or just medium spicy. And so on. The kind of phrases you might need at the table.. I would consider cramming words like "spare ribs" in my head when all the rest has already seeped in. Great lessons so far, this one was a bit less for me (but for gourmets -- it may be the best of course)

June 11, 2007 at 8:02 PMJust a suggestion -- if at any time you are looking for topics : I teach the use of computer programs to people. Any number of topics come to mind - a training introduction usually starts with the time a training will start and end, when the breaks will be, what to do in case of questions (ask them), when lunch is going to be, where the toilets are etc.. so : a training introduction. Or Click the file menu and choose open to open a file, double click on an icon. Open the start menu and go to programs. Or : an explanation of the different parts of the computer : here is the mouse, there is the keyboard... this is the computer-jargon I need every day in computer classes. until then, I'm going to continue enjoying the wonderful work you have done so far. cheers
Posted on: A Correction of Tones
December 12, 2008 at 2:33 PMIn the lesson it says that something like the four tones does not exist in English.. in fact, the amount of weirdness in English is very nice too.
the "ea" :
To tear appart // A big brown bear // tears in her eyes // to live in fear
the "e" and "ee" :
the mere fact // a frothing beer // a seer saw my future // please come over here
the "ei" :
The weight of something // it is weird // the height of something //
It must be quite tough for a non english speaker to find out how to pronounce each of these..
The bear ran towards me.. pronounced as the beer ran towards me should provoque some hilarity.
To tear appart..
She had tears in her eyes.. pronounced in correctly should sound.. confusing
Weir <> Wear .. I wear (pronounced as weir) my sunday shoes...
Gotta love language
