Your comment seems to explain why one might not go and check out even an explosion...noise fatigue.

The final line in this dialogue is a cracker.Laopo is onto his strategies [and one's he hasn't even thought of yet] for the next x years already,and baobao isn't even born yet,hehe.Do laogongs ever really stand a chance?

Great question mate.Jenny's answer now makes me think of how in English we could say something like:

"..going on a thousand bucks" or "near on a thousand bucks"..that's how I'll remember it anyway.

Oh sorry mate;I keep forgetting you guys can't get youtube.I hope that changes soon.In light of that it's a good call on your part.Yeah,the link was to a clip from the Darwin awards part of which showed some clowns ice fishing with dynamite.Trouble was they took their dog along with them who enjoyed the game and faithfully retrieved it and ended up under their 4wd.So car and all ended up in the drink after the explosion.

I'm wondering if the Chinese are likely to say this given their respect for age.But I suppose respect for the elderly and a desire for the health of youth can be two different things.

I have heard this distinction in asking ages before,but it's funny 'cos prior to that I would have guessed that it'd be the other way round.Asking someone how big they are sounds more like something you'd ask a growing kid [and in English asking someone how much sway they have sounds more relevent....nah,kids rule actually]
