脾气...temperament breakdown:

脾...spleen

气...air/anger

...similar then to the English expression.."venting your spleen".Interesting how both east and west attributed emotions to the internal organs and seemingly in concordance in some cases...eg heart for love.Liver and gall bladder.

In the line:

 哎哟，特能吃，小脸蛋肥嘟嘟的

..it sounds more like 可能 than 特能.Is it my hearing?

Some interesting vocab:

肥嘟嘟..fat..toot toot...reminds me of the cheek pinchers/pokers...making the honk honk sound as they poke the pudginess,hehe.

喂奶...hello milk

Thanks heaps for generously sharing your dictionary of the newbie and ellie vocab which I just downloaded without any problems.This will be so useful.Part of the problem with knowing when to leave Newbie behind for example is not knowing how much one might be missing.At this stage it seems to be diminishing returns for me at newbie level and I suppose it will all end up turning up in higher lessons somewhere,but it's nice to know you haven't missed anything basic.For example take the colours.Red,black and white all seem to turn up heaps of times,and I've seen yellow,blue and green turn up ,but when will brown or purple? Thanks again mate.

Raygo and bodawei,

I think I'm just confused.Yeah,I always enter "er" to get the character 儿。I was referring to the proper way to represent this in pinyin.In this particular case it seems it is [as you rightly point out Bodawei] just adding an r sound at the end and not another whole syllable.I suppose this explains why it is represented in pinyin with just "r" and not "er" and why there is no tone mark [even the neutral 5th tone] after the r.I'll have to keep an eye out for any discrepancies because I thought I had seen it with both "er" and tone marks when tacked on the end of other words,but perhaps this was in instances where it was clearly adding an extra syllable like in 女儿。Thanks.

When it comes to excersize 3,I always have to play around with the imput of any word that has an 儿 character tacked on the end of it,till it is accepted/correct.In this instance it accepted

..but I'm wondering how one can tell when it's meant to be "er" and not just "r" ,and when you're meant to signify the neutral tone with a 5 and in this case it prefered not to have a number after the r.Also the spaces in such a word sometimes I need to play around with.It seems perhaps that the r sound in this instance was perhaps more incorporated with the jin sound ,but I am a little confused over what should be a simple thing.Any ideas? Sorry for asking such a basic question at this level.

Ever since the trimming the fat at Wang's office lesson,凭 has been up there in my favourite Chinese words,both sound and usage,and the expression with which it was used in this dialogue was great.Up there with 就 also found in this terrific sentence:

你凭什么就怀疑我有婚外情？

谁玩儿手机在厕所？ 在蹲的厕所？

也许老婆组织一个掩宴会为老公回家。

Some great new vocab in this lesson:

不对劲儿，莫名其妙，垃圾短信 【garbage message,hehe],疑神疑鬼 【to doubt god,to doubt ghosts,哈哈】。

Yeah,we definitely need a follow up to this one.You can't leave us hanging like this.
