October 5, 2012 at 8:52 AMAnother hater? I have to say the only posts that made me uncomfortable here were not Tal's. The whole thing was a bit of an over-reaction I think to what started out as just an off the cuff bit of sarcasm and humor. I guess you will be adding me to your list of "Haters" now (Im crushed) but you are right about one thing. It is time to move on. Please do so.

September 29, 2012 at 5:37 PMTo me the beauty of Shakespeare is more in how he uses the Enlish language rather than the stories themselves. In Chinese I expect it falls kind of flat. The Chinese probably wonder what's so great about Shakespeare.

September 28, 2012 at 10:09 AMYea, I'm with you. I have always thought of them quite differently. I can't see James Cagney saying "you dirty mouse" either. I would say the Chinese also make a distinction, but its done with context.

September 24, 2012 at 9:35 PMThat's got to be Australian. Speaking of which, more Bizarro weather from down under - the "Firenado" (a burning dust devil) was recently captured on film in the outback:

How does one say this in Chinese?
龙卷风火?
旋风火?
尘暴火?

September 23, 2012 at 8:57 PMEven if you think tan looks better (which I dont), there are other considerations:

This recent article in the New England Journal of Medicine highlights skin damage caused by the sun. This truck driver was exposed for years to more sun on one side of his face while driving. Note that automotive windows filter out most of the UVB rays, which are the most harmful, and usually associated with skin cancer, but allow UVA to pass. Years of even limited exposure (UVA only) resulted here in extensive skin damage. Cancer is not the only risk. The sun also causes dramatic ageing of the skin. Tanning is just a bad idea.

September 23, 2012 at 5:32 PMTo help catch you up - It was announced last week in the news and features show.
http://chinesepod.com/lessons/farewells-and-iphones
even the intro sheds some light:
"In today's slightly sentimental News and Features, we're bidding goodbye to our beloved translator and podcast host Greg."
It sounds like there will be no more BST. Jenny mentioned that they may consider other options such as a new series or shows based on a dialect or dialects. I suggest, and am hoping for the long awaited series on Cantonese, although I did enjoy and will miss BST. Greg, you can hold your head high, you always did a great job and you did it with class. You will be missed. And welcome to the new guy. Tom is it?
