October 28, 2008 at 11:39 PM"de" MAY be omitted when the possessor is a pronoun and the possessed is a person. The closer the relation such as, my mother, the more likely it will be omitted.
"de" can also be omitted when a noun is modified by another noun which describes attributive characteristics
zhongguo ditu - a map of China
or when a noun is modified by a single syllable adjective.
xin ditu - a new map
If there are a string of single syllable adjectives, all but the last one will have a "de"
xin de bai dayi - a new white overcoat

October 27, 2008 at 8:38 AMThanks weijin for the english as well as the hanzi you sent me. (which I posted) I actually did have some of the words correct in places but it just seemed wrong to me because of the difference in syntax and grammar. I wasnt sure if I was hearing it right. This is another reason transcripts are valuable.

October 26, 2008 at 1:08 PMJohn, I heard the sales pitch. Have you ever sold cars for a living? In the interim would it be so hard to have someone post the transcript in the comments? For a native speaker this would be a 5 min job. Sorry if I dont understand, but it seems like a small thing to me. At any rate its not worth arguing about. I will make the best of it. Still a fan either way. 给你添麻烦了。
