Fuzhou

Is there a group here on CP for people living in Fuzhou? I'm moving there in September so I would like to know more about the place.

Cool. I plan to travel to Xiamen during my stay in Fuzhou. I can tell if someone is a northerner, from the "Wu-speaking" region, or from Hong Kong and other Cantonese speaking regions. I'm excited to hear what the "Fujian accent" sounds like. I suppose it might be similar to the Taiwanese one.

I doubt I'll be learning the Fuzhou dialect though.

I moving to Xiamen at the beginning of October, to stay for about 10 months. It's not Fuzhou, but it's close.

I know they have the new high speed rail between the two cities so you can get down to beautiful Xiamen in only 100 mins.

They speak a lot of Fujian dialect in Fuzhou, different to the Hokkien from Xiamen I believe. I have a friend who went to 福州大学 and his Mandarin is certainly not standard. They can't hear the difference between "l" and "n", and never pronounce "zh" as "j", always "z".
