The Shanghainese word 現在 i ze "now" sounds like the Korean word for "now" too.

I'm wondering is ChinesePod planning to host any Minnan lessons?

Can anyone tell me the name of the song played during the dialogue in the background? It sounds like a Japanese song...

I remember in the Philippines around 4 years ago there was this badminton explosion, suddenly Badminton courts appeared everywhere, and everyone was playing it!

我有个很好菲律宾华人朋友,之前老说我的普通话发音不标准。因为我学的是大陆的普通话,所以我的口音跟他们菲律宾华人的口音不一样。好像菲律宾华人的口音是很接近中国南方的。比如说,“东西” 的 “西”,标准的发音就是有翘舌音,南方的发音就是有平舌音。我每次说“东西”的时候他说我不对!真的很讨厌!幸好现在他不这么做了。

I had a really good Filipino-Chinese friend who always corrected my pronunciation even though I was speaking with a standard mainland accent. For example, the "xi" in 东西 (dongxi) has a retroflex sound, whereas Southern Chinese would probably pronounce the "xi" like "si" instead of "shi." It was kinda annoying...

Good Lesson!

In Suzhou whenever it rained, I couldn't use the net for at least an hour after the rain stopped.
