John: This line I've heard before. Its used pretty often with street performers.

John: 嫌。This doesn't mean 'salty'. Its a verb which means 'to dislike', 'to mind', to look down on as not being good.

Dilu: 武术。第三声和第四声。就是中国的特色。
John: So 武术 means 'martial arts', 'kung fu', whatever.
Dilu: 对。
John: And then he asks the crowd what?
Dilu: 大家说,给猴子大刀还是棍子?
John: 大刀 literally means 'big knife', kind of like a machete looking sword thing.
Dilu: 对。很大的那种长的刀。
John: And then 棍子, what's that?

Dilu: 动作。动作。两个第四声。
John: Two 4th tones. That also means 'action' or 'actions'.
Dilu: 对。表情和动作。我们可以用这个adjective叫滑稽。滑稽。
John: 2nd tone and neutral. Yet another word that means 'funny', but its kind of like 'comical', sort of like clowns and their slapstick, that kind of funny.

John: 原来, two 2nd tones, that means 'originally'. But this usage you can't translate as 'originally'. How would you describe how we use this?
Dilu: 就是你之前不知道[?]好热闹怎么会是,然后你一现在就看了一下,你现在知道了。
John: So you didn't know, then you find out, and 'now I know'. 'Oh that's why'. When you have this feeling, you begin the sentence with 原来。
