John: Hey guys, I'm John, this is an Intermediate lesson on ChinesePod.
John: Today's lesson is quite specialized. Its all about ...
John: That's nothing related to chickens. It is 'boxing'.
John: So a sport - boxing.
John: What are the tones there?
John: So what do we hear in the very beginning of the dialog?
John: 刺激 is an adjective.
John: And the tones are ...
John: So that's 'exciting', sometimes translated as 'stimulating', but here its 'exciting'.
John: A boxing match.
John: Lets look at that from the back. The first character there is what?
John: That means 'war', but its not something usually used by itself as a word. In this case the word is ...
John: 大战 - 'big war', just like an important match in this case.
John: So 大战 refers in this case to a war, a big match, and before that comes what?
John: Two 4th tones. 世纪, SHI JI. That means 'century'.
Dilu: 我们如果说世纪大战，你可以翻译成'The fight of the century'。
John: 世纪大战, the fight of the century.
John: Before we get started, let me say one more time, if you're not into boxing this lesson is going to be pretty useless to you because its going to cover some pretty specific boxing related terms. This is not your general purpose intermediate lesson. So with that said, lets listen to the dialog.
0:48 - dialog
John: An important fight. Then we get into boxing itself, and we hear something related to rounds.
John: 'What round is this?'. The word for 'round' is ...
John: Two 2nd tones.
